Slave of the globalization

August the 6th was a bank holiday in Ireland, since I was in Milan, I worked.
August the 15th was national holiday in Italy, since I was in Dublin, I worked.

The result is that I have basically lost 1 day of holiday.

I am a slave of the globalization, I move from one country to another and skip holidays. 😉

2 weeks without blogging

I haven’t blogged so much in the last few months and this was because I have been following a lot of things lately.
In the last couple of weeks I have been particularly bad at blogging, anyway, not even an interesting link or some tech-news. This happened because I have been on a “short” vacation. My girlfriend and I have been invited to a wedding in Ft. Lauderdale and of course this was a great excuse to take a few days off. We flew to Miami, traveled to the Keys, the everglades, the beautiful Sanibel Island, Ft. Lauderdale (of course) and then back in Miami.

It’s been a GREAT trip, very relaxing, lots of beautiful places, no computer, no telephone.

Now I’m back. 🙂

Zooppa

Clicking here and there on a few blogs I ended up on Zooppa. It’s yet another social network with a slightly different aim from many others, they suggest a brand and a task and all members are invited to create some video content (a-la TV commercial) and to vote others’ creations. The top voted videos win a prize.

It seems like a really cheap way to get some ideas for commercials. I wonder how much this is really worth as it is not clear to me how much work is done to make sure the videos transmit the correct message to the end user. The communite votes the one they like best, not the one that really transmits the message in the best way which is an important value added that marketing and communication companies should add!

Anyway I’m posting this message for 3 reasons:
1) You HAVE to watch the videos that explain the contests. The guys speaking are certainly Italians and their accent is clear, at least for me! 😀
2) You might actually like it and I’d like to hear comments
3) They declare to be the first Italo-American startup. Actually the oldest I can think of is Funambol that’s been around for WAY longer and I don’t even think that they have been the first one. Maybe Funambol was the first to be a Silicon Valley-based company, so computers and new techology. Zooppa is certainly not the first.

PS: Zuppa (pronounced in Italian just like Zooppa) means soup.

Building next block on fire!

While I was having lunch today I noticed some firemen stopping out of the cafeteria. Some of the other guests said there might be a fire in the building in the higher floors.

I went out as soon as I was done with food and noticed some smoke.

Later my friend Julien sent me this picture (and some more) that show the fire had grown A LOT!

At this time I don’t know if anyone got hurt. It turned out that it was the office of some of the other people in the cafeteria.

See exactly where it happened on this map.

UPDATE: more picture here.
